The Paradise Ridge Democratic Club was started by a small group of local residents in the early 1950's with the help Reg Watts and Jimmy Fortino, who had spearheaded the Chico Club in the late 1940's. Among these early members were Bob Wilcox and his wife, at that time operators of the Spinning Wheel Restaurant, and Roy McKernan, who had set up a law practice in town. Most of these people had lived through the Great Depression of the 1930's and early 40's. They were Democrats with the stamp of Franklin Delano Roosevelt upon them; they had been through rough times and had survived largely because of Roosevelt's New Deal programs that were designed to make life easier for the common man.
And post Campfire ...we are BACK!
Today the Paradise Ridge Democrats have a healthy membership and meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at Paradise Library (5922 Clark Road), starting at 6:30pm.
The group studies non-partisan issues that affect the daily lives of citizens and supports Democratic candidates for local, state and national elections. Speakers at the meetings keep us informed on the political health of Paradise/ Magalia area, the state, and the nation. A lively discussion usually makes every meeting into a forum. We meet every month, except July and December, and each December it's our annual Holiday Party.
