CPUC Conflict of Interest Resolution
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to protect the public from rate abuses by utility companies as well as outright criminal negligence, destruction of property and wildlands, clear cutting of both private and public property, and grave injury and even deaths of Californians; and
WHEREAS, the vast majority of the appointees to the CPUC have either been from utility companies and their subsidiaries, or found employment among such utilities shortly after the end of their tenure as board members; and
WHEREAS, said board members have almost completely consistently made rulings that favor the utilities and fly directly in the face of their responsibility to protect;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Democratic Party Central Committee of the California Democratic Party supports a position that the CPUC members should be free of conflicts of interest; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Butte County Democratic Party of the California Democratic Party supports the use of common methods of enforcing an absence of conflict of interest, such as term limits for board members and prohibitions on board members working in the industry they are supposed to be governing for appropriate periods before and after their tenure as board members.
